One day to go to this year’s Supersonic festival and we’ve been reliably informed it’s bigger and better than ever. Now in its ninth year, the festival attracts global fans who travel from far and wide to immerse themselves in the experimental music, contemporary art, film and specialist talks.
It’s organisers – Capsule – craft extraordinary events for adventurous audiences. Purity is once again supporting the event by supplying the bars and, alongside Kraken Rum, lubricating the masses with liquid refreshments. This year an exciting new space has been added to the collection of converted warehouses and art galleries in around the Custard Factory, which hosts the festival each year.
If you want some time out from the festival, check out the fringe event ‘Empty Orchestra’ which is based in nearby gallery Eastside Projects. Empty Orchestra is the literal translation of karaoke. The exhibition is a working lounge bar where artists will interrogate, dismantle, displace, replace and rebuild the tools and contexts of musical performance. The exhibition promises to bring together the slick and the shabby, the engineered and the experimental. Purity ales will be in plentiful supply.
So whether you’re into funeral doom or grindcore, folk or avant jazz - this weekend looks set to be a good one.
